Striking pair of vintage Japanese Kutani / Okinawan Shisa ceramic guardian lion (Foo Dog / Komainu) statues. Hand-modeled with rich flowing green, indigo blue, and amber majolica-style drip glazes over porcelain/ceramic bodies. Sculpted in traditional complementary stances (open mouth Agata warding off evil spirits, closed mouth Ungata keeping in good fortune).
